Book Review | Selfish Creatures Desire Vengeance

This is a very honest collection of personal poetry, and while I can't claim to understand poetry as well as those who read a lot of it, this collection spoke to me.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Gut-wrenching and beautiful.

This is a very honest collection of personal poetry, and while I can't claim to understand poetry as well as those who read a lot of it, this collection spoke to me. I could definitely feel the raw emotions poured into these poems, and I relate to a lot of the pain and situations the poems speak of. Religious trauma can be a beast, and if you have gender dysphoria while dealing with trauma, in this case, multiple traumas, it's a very dark place in your head. There's so much taking up space that haunts you all the time, and it's just what this collection portrays.

'Don't Follow' and 'A Fervent Prayer' really stuck out to me personally. I loved the flow of 'Don't Follow' especially, but my heart broke as I read all of them, and I felt the deep pain and sadness throughout. I just want to say thank you to the author for sharing these poems and for being unapologetically honest, as I'm sure they will help others who have experienced similar traumas. They certainly reached me.
